ABOUT
UK Community Works CIC (Community Works) was established six years ago, working in tandem with environmental charity, the Institute for Sustainability. Alongside substantial experience and expertise in the fields of sustainable communities, energy and built environment, Community Works also retains a very strong and experienced grant-funded projects team – having developed, managed and delivered all of the Institute for Sustainability ERDF projects in the previous 6 years .
Terry McGivern was Head of Programmes (Communities and Built Environment) at the Institute for Sustainability for 6 years up to 2014 – focusing exclusively on London and SE regions. Since then, as a Director of Community Works, he has led the CW team in the development of similar “sustainable community” engagements and projects across the country – from Cornwall in the south to Yorkshire and the North East of England. Our particular focus has been on supporting the development of stronger local energy and low carbon economies.
Community Works supports activities that help to build stronger, more cohesive local communities; and assists communities to take more control of local assets and economy.
In particular we support communities to develop greater sustainability and resilience by reducing energy demand; increasing localised renewable energy production and use, including use of electric vehicles; increasing the availability of low carbon/affordable housing; and boosting growth in low carbon sector products and services. We have expertise in commercial energy generation and supply; energy efficiency;low carbon/affordable housebuilding and retrofit; low carbon technologies; innovation; SME/community engagement; and part grant-funded project/ programme management.
